As we are at the threshold of year 2008, we librarians must reassess and reconsider the changing library environment. डॉ. रंगनाथन की याद में मना लाइब्रेरी डे

देवी अहिल्या यूनिवर्सिटी की सेंट्रल लाइब्रेरी और स्कूल ऑफ़ लाइब्रेरी साइंस ने मंगलवार को लाइब्रेरी डे मनाया। लाइब्रेरी साइंस के पिता कहे जाने वाले डॉ S.R. रंगनाथन के ११६वे जन्मदिन मोके पर यह आयोजन हुआ। इस मोके पर दिनभर चली विभिन्य स्पर्धायो में लाइब्रेरी साइंस के स्टूडेंट्स ने हिस्सेदारी की। कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत स्कूल ऑफ़ इलेक्ट्रॉनिक के हेड डॉ सुमंत कटियाल के मुख्य आतिथ्य में हुई। उन्होंने लाइब्रेरी में माडर्न टेक्नोलॉजी को अपनाने का संदेश दिया। दिनभर चले प्रोग्राम का समापन आईआईएम इंदौर के लिब्ररियन किशोरचंद्र सत्पथी की मोजुदगी में हुआ। उन्होंने इंदौर शहर की बेहतरी की लिए आधुनिक और अच्छे लाइब्रेरी तंत्र की आवश्यकता को जरुरी बताया। सिंगापूर का उदाहरण देते हुए उन्होंने कहा की वहां तमाम आयोजन लाइब्रेरी में होते है। हर मॉल में एक लाइब्रेरी होती है और हर नागरिक के जिंदगी में लाइब्रेरी की महत्पूर्ण भूमिका होती है। हमें भी उसी दिशा में काम करने की जरुरत है।

Celebration of Librarian's Day in DAVV, Indore

Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya Central Library and School of Library and Information Science have celebrated 116th Birthday of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (Father of Library Science) on 12th August 2008.
Prof. Sumant Katiyal, Dean, Faculty of Engineering Sciences and Head School of Electronic, Devi Ahilya University was the Guest of Honor for the inaugural session of the program. Prof. Sumant Katiyal and Dr. GHS Naidu, Librarian and Head School of Library and Information Science have started program with lighting of lamp and floral tributes to Maa Saraswati and Dr. S.R. Ranganathan. The Program started at 11.00 AM, with inaugural speech by Prof. Katiyal. In his inaugural address has emphasized the need for introducing the modern technologies in libraries to carry forward the philosophy of Dr. S.R.Ranganathan. He has also emphasized the pleasure of reading books. He has opined to publicise the importance of Librarians day in the academic circles.
In the later sessions the following events took place. The students who have performed well have been given prizes as follows.

He has highlighted the need for new technologies, and the need for network in Indore City for betterment of the library services and to keep Dr. SR Ranganathan’s ideas alive.
The program was conducted by Mr. Prabhat Singh Rajput Mrs. Peeti Patel, Mr.Bhupendra Ratha, and Mr. Jai Singh Jadhav, Lecturers, School of Library and Information Science are conducted to program. The Library staff members also have share their views on this gala day.

Mahatma Gandhi University Library in association with Marian College Kuttikkanam is organizing an International Workshop on UNESCO's WINISIS/GenISIS For Digital Libraries/Archives from 6-9 September 2008 at Marian College, Kuttikkanam, Peermade, Idukki, Kerala India.
The workshop intended for researchers, librarians and information managers will provide capacity to the participants: for developing and managing Digital Archives, Digital Libraries and personal e-Document collections using WINISIS and GenISIS, making them accessible with search mechanisms over Intranet/Internet using GenISISWEB, publishing them with search engine in CDROMs using GenISISCD; all simple and easy to use open source packages from UNESCO. At the end of the workshop participants will be able to create electronic publications with search and full text retrieval facility and launch Digital Libraries/Archives of full text, image, audio and video files, accessible over the Web.
