Celebration of Librarian's Day in DAVV, Indore

Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya Central Library and School of Library and Information Science have celebrated 116th Birthday of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (Father of Library Science) on 12th August 2008.
Prof. Sumant Katiyal, Dean, Faculty of Engineering Sciences and Head School of Electronic, Devi Ahilya University was the Guest of Honor for the inaugural session of the program. Prof. Sumant Katiyal and Dr. GHS Naidu, Librarian and Head School of Library and Information Science have started program with lighting of lamp and floral tributes to Maa Saraswati and Dr. S.R. Ranganathan. The Program started at 11.00 AM, with inaugural speech by Prof. Katiyal. In his inaugural address has emphasized the need for introducing the modern technologies in libraries to carry forward the philosophy of Dr. S.R.Ranganathan. He has also emphasized the pleasure of reading books. He has opined to publicise the importance of Librarians day in the academic circles.
In the later sessions the following events took place. The students who have performed well have been given prizes as follows.

Debate: Use of ICT in Library services
Favor- Namita Sony (M.L.I.Sc.)

Poem: Monika Jhariya (B.L.I.Sc.)
Quiz: Mahesh Pawar, Kavita Dani, Manorama, Prabha, and Vranda.


The valedictory function of the day long program was held in the evening at 4.00PM. Sri. Kishor Satpathy, Librarian, Indian Institute of Management, Indore, was the chief guest for the program. He has highlighted the need for new technologies, and the need for network in Indore City for betterment of the library services and to keep Dr. SR Ranganathan’s ideas alive.
The program was conducted by Mr. Prabhat Singh Rajput Mrs. Peeti Patel, Mr.Bhupendra Ratha, and Mr. Jai Singh Jadhav, Lecturers, School of Library and Information Science are conducted to program. The Library staff members also have share their views on this gala day.
